Bio

Avril De Torres is a public interest lawyer defending communities impacted by environmentally harmful projects and electric consumer groups burdened by costly power rates. She is currently the Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED), where she leads the policy advocacy work and strategic legal interventions for the advancement of an ecologically just and people-centered energy sector and development path in the Philippines. She has recently been selected as the Luzon Civil Society Organization Representative to the Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, which is a government-led, multi-stakeholder initiative implementing EITI—the global standard that promotes the open, accountable management, and good governance of oil, gas, and mineral resources. She is also a part-time lecturer teaching Environmental Policies and Legal Issues in Development at the Ateneo de Manila University, where she also received her degrees in Political Science, Juris Doctor, and Master in Public Management, Energy Transitions Track.
