Bio

Ir. Dr. Sanjayan Velautham is an energy professional with over 35 years of experience spanning the energy industry, government, international organisations, and academia. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and completed his postgraduate studies at Kyushu University, Japan.

He began his professional career with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) before serving as an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He subsequently held several senior leadership positions, including Deputy Director at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore; Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Indonesia; Chief Executive Officer of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia; and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).  

He has also contributed to numerous international initiatives, including serving on the Advisory Board of the Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC), Japan, and as a member of the Global Future Council on Energy of the World Economic Forum (2018–2019).

He currently serves as Principal Fellow at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN).

Ir. Dr. Sanjayan was awarded the ASEAN Excellence in Energy Management by an Individual Award at the 37th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting in 2019.
